Purpose Is A Film
Purpose now has become a film.
Purpose is a 96-minute documentary film produced by the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll), directed by Martin Oetting, that challenges the question: What is the Purpose of Our Economic System?
The film couldn't come at a more critical moment, as it eloquently explores what we can do to transform our economic system to one that truly serves people and the planet—moving beyond the narrow focus on endless GDP growth which is tearing our societies and planet apart.
Kate Raworth has been among the first to challenge the consequences of GDP growth and to design a new economy for the new millennium. In her TED Talk and book The Doughnut Economy (2017), she states:
“In the 20th century, the economy lost its purpose and replaced it with the obsession about endless GDP growth.”
We need a system change, not a climate change, as the climate movement activists are demanding, and Purpose is the way.
As we face multiple global crises—climate change, inequality, and social unrest—how do we start rethinking the economy?
My answer is to address the greatest challenge of our time:
“building purpose-driven organizational cultures to evolve business as a force for good in the world.”
This is why the Purpose-Driven Academy exists and with the film Purpose launching at such a pivotal moment, we have an incredible opportunity to align our efforts.
This isn't just about watching a film; it's about igniting change.
